What is the Fertility program?

The Fertility program is a physician-guided program for individuals and couples who are planning for a baby and want to prepare their health, or who have been trying and want to understand what may be getting in the way.

It looks at both partners’ health, arranges the right tests if your physician requests them and explains them clearly, and guides you to an OB-GYN or fertility specialist when that is the right next step.

What are the potential benefits?

Both partners considered
Fertility depends on both partners, so each can be assessed, together or separately.
The right tests, explained
Laboratory tests collected at home, such as hormone and PCOS panels, when requested, with results explained clearly.
Health prepared for pregnancy
Guidance on weight, nutrition, sleep, stress, alcohol and smoking, which affect fertility in both partners.
Timing understood
Help understanding your cycle and your fertile window.
A clear path forward
Referral to an OB-GYN or fertility specialist when your history or results call for it.

How does it work?

Conceiving depends on a chain of events: ovulation releasing an egg, healthy sperm reaching it at the right time, and the body being ready to support a pregnancy. Hormones coordinate each step, and general health, weight, age and lifestyle influence them all, in both partners.

The program looks at each link:

Ovulation and cycles
Irregular periods can be a sign that ovulation is not happening regularly, often linked to conditions such as PCOS or thyroid problems, which tests can show if requested.
Sperm health
Sperm health is affected by heat, smoking, alcohol, weight and general health, and it is part of the assessment.
Timing
Understanding the fertile window, the few days in each cycle when pregnancy is possible, helps you plan.
General health
Weight, blood sugar, nutrition and stress influence hormones in both partners.
Knowing when to refer
Some situations need specialist care sooner, and your physician will tell you when.

Finding which link needs attention, early, is what helps you take the right next step.

What should I expect during the program?

At the start
A review of your history and goals, tests if requested, and your findings explained clearly.
As you go
Follow-up on your next steps, with guidance on timing and health.
Throughout
Support at your pace, and referral to a specialist when that is the right route. Results vary from person to person.

Who it may suit

This program may suit you if:

  • You are planning for a family and want a health assessment first.
  • You want any laboratory tests you need arranged and explained.
  • You want guidance on when to see a fertility specialist.

Your physician will tell you if the program is not suitable for you, or if in-person care would serve you better.

This program does not replace care from an obstetrician-gynecologist or fertility specialist.

What’s included

Every part of the program is led or requested by your physician.

Your physician
A PRC-licensed physician reviews your history and goals, and decides what is clinically appropriate for you.
Regular follow-ups
Your care team reviews how you are doing and the plan is adjusted as you go.
Laboratory tests
Only if your physician requests them, based on your assessment. Not everyone needs them. Your sample is collected at home and a physician reviews every result.
