What is the Sleep Enhancement program?

The Sleep Enhancement program is a physician-guided program for people who want deeper, more restful sleep: those who struggle to fall asleep, wake often during the night, wake too early or wake up tired.

It looks at why your sleep is not working, from your routine and stress to your health and breathing, and builds a plan you can follow every evening and morning.

What are the potential benefits?

The reason you sleep poorly
Your physician looks at your routine, stress, mood, caffeine, health conditions and breathing to find what is behind it.
Practical changes that fit your life
Advice for your evenings, mornings and bedroom that you can start right away.
Breathing problems spotted
Loud snoring or pauses in breathing are checked, with referral for a sleep study when needed.
Your days considered too
Sleep affects energy, mood, focus and appetite, so those are looked at as well.
Follow-up
Regular check-ins to fine-tune the plan.

How does it work?

Sleep is run by two systems: your body clock, which follows light and dark over 24 hours, and sleep pressure, which builds the longer you are awake. Good sleep comes when the two line up. Irregular hours, screens at night, caffeine, stress and some health problems pull them apart.

The program works on both:

It resets your body clock
Regular wake times and morning light help your body know when to feel alert and when to feel sleepy.
It protects sleep pressure
Avoiding long late naps and caffeine later in the day lets sleepiness build naturally by bedtime.
It calms the mind
Stress keeps the body alert at night. A wind-down routine and ways to handle racing thoughts help you switch off.
It shapes your bedroom
A dark, cool, quiet room and less screen light before bed make deeper sleep easier.
It checks your health
Sleep apnea, reflux, pain or low mood can disturb sleep, and your physician looks for them.

Consistent habits retrain your sleep over time, which is why follow-ups matter.

What should I expect during the program?

At the start
A review of your sleep and routine, perhaps a short sleep diary, and a few changes to start with.
As you go
Check-ins to see what is helping, with the plan adjusted, and referral if a sleep study is needed.
Throughout
Steady habits rather than quick fixes. Results vary from person to person.

Who it may suit

This program may suit you if:

  • You sleep poorly or wake unrefreshed.
  • Stress or low mood is affecting your days.
  • You want to understand what is behind it before trying to fix it.

Your physician will tell you if the program is not suitable for you, or if in-person care would serve you better.

This program is not an emergency service. If you are in crisis or thinking of harming yourself, contact emergency services or a crisis line straight away.

A PRC-licensed physician reviews your history and goals, and decides what is clinically appropriate for you.
